From November 1-3, 2023, the "Eco Hanzhong - Ibis World Beauty" 2023 Crested Ibis Cultural Exchange Event was held in Hanzhong, Shaanxi Province in China. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) Secretary-General LEE Hee-sup delivered congratulatory remarks through a video message. The event was organized by the Propaganda Department of the CPC Shaanxi Provincial Committee, Shaanxi Provincial Forestry Bureau, Shaanxi Provincial People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, and the Hanzhong Municipal People's Government. The event consisted of a launching ceremony, Hanzhong green food industry chain investment promotion meeting, and site visits.
In his remarks, SG LEE reflected on the long history of human exchanges among CJK, mentioning representative figures such as Jianzhen of China, Kukai of Japan, Choi Chiwon of Korea who crossed the borders to learn from neighboring countries. Such people-to-people exchanges later developed into sister city exchanges from the 1970’s, leading to one of the greatest accomplishments of CJK cooperation, which is protecting the Crested Ibis from extinction. While introducing “Tribi” the official mascot of TCS, SG LEE further emphasized the value of the Crested Ibis as a brand of CJK, a slogan for harmonious friendship, an attraction for tourism, a cornerstone for cultural exchange, and a motivation for ecological protection.
