Mechanisms 17th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM) in Shanghai, China

17th Tripartite Environment Ministers Meeting (TEMM) was held in Shanghai, China on 30 April 2015. Minister CHEN Jining of the Ministry of Environmental Protection of China, Minister MOCHIZUKI Yoshio of the Ministry of the Environment of Japan and Minister YOON Seongkyu of the Ministry of Environment of the ROK attended the meeting. The Trilateral Cooperation Secretariat (TCS) attended this meeting as an observer.
At the meeting, the three Ministers exchanged the recent progress in each country regarding environmental policies after TEMM 16, as well as their major policies to address regional and global environmental issues. The Ministers also reviewed the progress regarding the implementation of the Tripartite Joint Action Plan on Environmental Cooperation (2010-2014) and adopted Tripartite Joint Action Plan on Environmental Cooperation (2015-2019).
At the press conference after the meeting, the three Ministers signed Tripartite Joint Action Plan on Environmental Cooperation (2015-2019) and a Joint Communiqué. A TEMM Environment Awards Ceremony was held as well.
Prior to TEMM 17, Tripartite Roundtable on Environmental Business themed “Strengthen the Exchanges and Cooperation in Environmental Technology and Industry, Promote the Development and Transformation of Regional Green Economy” was held on April 28-29 and Youth Forum themed “Building Connections with Nature” was held on April 29. Deputy Secretary-General LEE Jong-heon addressed congratulatory remarks at both forums and expressed willingness to contribute to trilateral environment cooperation. In his remarks, he attached the importance to business people’s role in promoting green and environmental industry and technologies among the three countries. DSG LEE also encouraged youths from the three countries to become the future leaders for solving the environmental issues in East Asia as well as promoting trilateral cooperation as a whole. The outcome of two forums were reported to the three Ministers during TEMM 17.
The 18th TEMM will be held in Japan in 2016.
