On 14 July 2022, the 7th Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management was held via video conference, presided by Mr. NINOYU Satoshi, Minister of State for Disaster Management and Ocean Policy, the Cabinet Office of Japan, with the participation of H.E. Mr. ZHOU Xuewen, Vice Minister of the Ministry of Emergency Management of China, and H.E. Mr. KIM Sung-Ho, Vice Minister for Disaster and Safety Management, Ministry of the Interior and Safety of ROK. TCS Deputy Secretary-General SAKATA Natsuko attended the meeting and delivered opening and closing remarks. 

At the meeting, reconfirming the significance of Trilateral Cooperation on disaster management, the three sides introduced key disaster prevention policies and experiences in response to increasingly more frequent and intense natural disasters and adopted the Joint Statement. In the Joint Statement, the three sides decided to actively promote cooperation (1) to ensure steady implementation of the Sendai Framework with its midterm review to be conducted in 2023, (2) to strengthen the capacities and measures of each side to respond to various natural disasters, and (3) to further promote trilateral cooperation on capacity building on disaster management through CJK education and training institutions. The three sides also appreciated TCS’ efforts in promoting Trilateral Cooperation on disaster management. 

The next Trilateral Ministerial Meeting on Disaster Management will be hosted by China in 2023.
