TC Activities 55th CCOP Annual Session and Follow-up Meeting of the 3rd Trilateral GeoSummit in Chiang Mai, Thailand

The 55th Coordinating Committee for Geoscience Programmes in East and Southeast Asia (CCOP) Annual Session and the Follow-up Meeting of the 3rd Trilateral GeoSummit was held on November 5-6, 2019, in Chiang Mai, Thailand. TCS delegation headed by Deputy Secretary-General CAO Jing participated in the session. Delegations from CCOP member countries, cooperating countries and organizations attended the session.
At the session, DSG CAO delivered a presentation to introduce the trilateral cooperation and TCS. DSG CAO emphasized that TCS is willing to promote sustainable development in the region and beyond by sharing three countries’ development experiences and deepening practical cooperation in various areas. She underlined that TCS is ready to cooperate with other countries or organizations in the modality of CJK+X for common development and prosperity.
During the session, the participating countries and institutions introduced their organization and current status of the research and achievements. All of the delegations recognized the importance of enhancing cross-regional geoscience cooperation.
During the Follow-up Meeting of the 3rd Trilateral GeoSummit, TCS delivered a presentation to introduce the activities to support and promote trilateral cooperation mechanisms and frameworks focusing on economic affairs. The three institutions had an in-depth discussion on the plan of the joint project in related geoscience topics and agreed to continue the discussion in the future for the coordination of the joint project.
The thematic session was also held on November 5-6, under the theme of “Geoscience for Sustainable Development.” Experts from member countries and cooperating countries shared the knowledge and programs on related topics.
CCOP is an intergovernmental organization established in 1966 with the mission of facilitating and coordinating the implementation of applied geoscience programs in East and Southeast Asia. Together with the Philippines, China, Japan, and Korea are the founding members of CCOP.
