Welcome to the online office
of the Trilateral
The chart of 808 Commonly Used Chinese Characters in China, Japan and the ROK is one of the most prominent outcomes of the Northeast Asia Trilateral Forum (NATF), which is jointly organized by the three news organizations of JoongAng Daily, Nikkei Shimbun and Xinhua News Agency. The NATF is an important regional platform bringing the big figures from political, economic, academic and cultural fields to discuss regional cooperation in all aspects. Chinese Characters, as one of the common cultures shared by the three countries, were selected based on the high frequency of common use in Chinese, Japanese and Korean by the experts from the three countries. Based on the draft of “800 commonly used Chinese Characters” released in the 8th NATF in July, 2013 (Hokkaido, Japan) and the trilateral expert meeting held in October, 2013 (Suzhou, China), the revised version of the chart was submitted to the 9th NATF in April, 2014 (Yangzhou, China).
